Abstract
Food and agriculture waste management is a pressing issue in India,
with significant implications for environmental sustainability and resource
utilization. This work investigates novel strategies and practices for
mitigating waste and enhancing resource recovery within the Indian context. It
emphasizes the application of innovative agricultural techniques, such as
precision farming and integrated crop management, to reduce waste at the
production stage. For example, recent research highlights how precision farming
can optimize resource use and minimize crop losses. The role of waste
processing technologies, like composting and anaerobic digestion, are
increasingly adopted to convert agricultural residues into valuable by-products
of organic fertilizers and biogas. These helps in managing waste effectively
and reducing methane emissions from landfills. Additionally, the effectiveness
of policy frameworks and government initiatives aimed at promoting waste
reduction and sustainable practices. The implementation of National Policy on
Biofuels are analyzed for their impact on waste management. Consumer education
and awareness programs are also discussed as critical components in reducing
food waste at the household level. These programs give better food storage
practices and meal planning to minimize waste products. Overall, the work provides
comprehensive insights into food and agriculture waste management, highlighting
practical solutions and measures to enhance sustainability and resource
efficiency.
